A Book Exhibit

I was invited to the opening of an exhibit relating the story of Ruth Maier, the Austrian-Norwegian Anne Frank and focusing on her diary that has been translated from German into English and Norwegian. The venue was the Austrian Embassy and the event was co-sponsored by the Austrian and Norwegian Embassies.

I went with my friend John O and met my Austrian friend Gertraud outside at the Embassy.

Ruth fled Austria when the situation became dangerous for the Jews and settled in Norway. Unfortunately, she was not safe there, either. She was arrested in 1942 and sent to Auschwitz where she was immediately sent to the gas chambers and died at the age of 22. A friend found her diary in which she wrote about the deteriorating situation in Austria and her happy life in Norway.
