Edo's Squid: Birthday Celebration

Cousins Andrea and Amelia

Andrea recently celebrated his 80th birthday. What a milestone! What a cause for celebration! His cousin Amelia and her husband Tony invited us to dinner at Andrea's favorite restaurant in the US: Edo's Squid in Richmond, VA. Andrea was, of course, in seventh heaven!

Christine and Tony

We had a very nice time with our relatives but the restaurant was extremely noisy and some of the food wasn't up to snuff (too salty). What I liked the best was the braised fennel. Delicious!

The cousins enjoy looking at Andrea's heritage scrapbooks.

Busboys and Poets: Open Mike for Poets

My friend Pat and I went to Busboys and Poets in Shirlington tonight. We had a delicious dinner. We shared a plate of bruschetta and a piece of key lime pie. I also had a bowl of scrumptious Moroccan soup. Then we enjoyed the poetry readings at the open mike. The group of poets was diverse. They were all very good. We definitely plan to return for another evening of poetry!

Spotlight on Guatemala

Mother Susan and Father Tom hosted a lovely Guatemalan event at church on Sunday evening.
They shared their interesting experiences studying Spanish in a one-on-one immersion program in Antigua.

Mother Susan explains what the food items are.
These are pupusas (which I discovered in San Salvador and adore!).

At the Sons of Norway lodge meeting on Friday, Norwegian crafts were on display. Above you will see some examples.

A Birthday Party at La Chaumiere

Our very gracious and generous host

I was invited to a birthday party at La Chaumiere, a fabulous restaurant in Georgetown. I spent two wonderful hours eating and chatting with dear friends. I would highly recommend this restaurant for very special occasions.

Novelist Linn Ullmann at Olsson's Books

Ullmann signing books

Tonight I heard the acclaimed Norwegian novelist Linn Ullmann talk about her latest book, A Blessed Child, at Olsson's Books in Dupont Circle in the District. She is a journalist as well as a novelist. She is the daughter of film director Ingmar Bergmann and actress Liv Ullmann.

Richard Byrd, My Local Library

Another favorite place is my local public library. My grandsons love to go there to check out books. In these photos, however, they are goofing around.

My Neighborhood Border's

One of my favorite places in my neighborhood is my Border's bookstore. I took my grandsons there last Saturday. Colin is trying to read but his brother is bothering him.

Sette Osteria in Dupont Circle

Christine, Jodi, Mary

Jodi chose an excellent restaurant, Sette Osteria, in Dupont Circle. We began with a roasted eggplant and mushroom pizza and had delicious salads as entrees. We finished our meal by sharing a scrumptious dessert (pictured below).

Busboys and Poets

Nicoletta and I dragged Andrea kicking and screaming to Busboys and Poets in Shirlington. He was convinced it was not his type of place. However, a good time was had by all. Nicoletta and I had delicious Moroccan soup. Afterwards, we went to Caribou for coffee.

Georgetown Park

Georgetown Park is a lovely shopping mall on M Street in Georgetown.

Georgetown: Paparazzi

This was my second visit to this Italian restaurant in Georgetown. On my first visit I was very impressed with the food and the atmosphere. On my second visit I liked the atmosphere well enough but the food left something to be desired.

Adams Morgan: Las Canteras

Adams Morgan is a very exciting neighborhood in the District. I like it especially for its diversity. Las Canteras is a delightful Peruvian restaurant.
