Cafe on Capitol Hill

The former chef at Extra Virgin in Shirlington opened a new restaurant on Capitol Hill, Toscana Cafe. We wanted to try it out and we invited our friend Dal to join us. We had a very enjoyable time although we missed George.

Christine's Beet and Goat Cheese Salad

What was our evaluation of the Toscana Cafe? We were disappointed.

The arancini were really suppli and were so-so. (According to Andrea, arancini are white and suppli red.)
The beet and goat cheese salad was drowning in vinegar. All of the ingredients were too wet and soft.
The pappardelle were overcooked.
The linguine were al dente but they too were swimming in too much liquid.
The penne al burro were al dente.
The pistachio ice cream was delicious.

The menu lacked appealing options for vegetarians.

Andrea thought that the noise level was too high.

The atmosphere was pleasant.

There is a deli on the first floor and tables for diners outside.

There is convenient parking behind the restaurant.

DCDC to Phillips and Levante

We met at the Phillips Collection.

We saw the very interesting exhibit of the Danish artist Per Kirkeby.

We also wandered through the Phillips' permanent collection, viewing the Rothko Room, Renoir's Boating Party, and several Monets and Van Goghs, among others.

Then we had a delightful lunch at Levante on 19th, just off Dupont Circle.

Excellent food, great service, and stimulating conversation. A great DCDC outing!
