An Outing in Italian

I met my friends Kristina and Matt at the National Gallery of Art to see the Verrocchio exhibit. The definite jewel was the David. Our language for the afternoon was, of course, la bella lingua!

I am really interested in all of the different statues of David. Most of them are in great contrast with the David of Michelangelo. I fondly remember studying Donatello in great depth when I was studying at the University of Florence. The primary focus of the course was on his David.

In the background on the right you can catch a glimpse of a very grumpy Lorenzo dei Medici!

After visiting the exhibit, we had a bite to eat in the Cascade Cafe.

Going to the movies

Marie and I met at Potomac Yard to see the film The Goldfinch based on the book of the same name.We discussed the book at great length at Starbuck's afterwards. On the whole, we liked the film and enjoyed ourselves.

Harvesting Olives

My daughter Nicoletta and her husband Francesco were harvesting olives this past week-end. They have 30 olive trees on their land in Sardegna.

They invited two friends to help them. Their reward will be some olive oil!

Tuesday Concert

George and I met at the Church of the Epiphany for one of the wonderful Tuesday concerts. The musicians were the Borisevich Duo, Pianist Margarita Loukachkina and Violinist Nikita Borisevich.

They played sonata No. 2 in D Major, op. 94-bis by Sergei Prokofiev, Nigun by Ernest Bloch, and Tzigane by Maurice Ravel.

Lunch at Au Bon Pain afterwards as is our wont!

Nora Again

We had a very enjoyable Sons of Norway lodge meeting.

A meeting was held followed by the potluck and then the speaker.

I received my Master pin, Bronze Level. This means that I have completed all three levels for three different Cultural Skills categories.

I have actually earned pins in four categories as can be seen on my pin and bars below: Norwegian Literature, Norwegian Genealogy, Norwegian Music, and Norwegian Language and Culture.

Wendy Swallow, the author of Searching for Nora, gave a very interesting talk about her book.

Celebrating a big birthday

We celebrated George's big 0 birthday at the National Museum of the American Indian.

Looking Good!

We first saw a small exhibit - not too impressive - and then enjoyed a delicious lunch. I had the most wonderful corn pudding along with my usual wild rice salad.

Belated Birthday Lunch

Out to Dona's for a belated birthday lunch. I think it was probably my last birthday celebration of 2019.

Dona loves to cook and she prepared a very nice French dish, Galette, a salad, and a delicious dessert.

Lunch with JPK

I was very happy that my friend John came to town and took me to Eleni's Greek restaurant for a delicious lunch. (It was almost a four-hour lunch so we covered a lot of ground!)
