Another Piano Recital

Janet and I metro-ed into DC to attend a piano recital at the Church of the Epiphany. We joined George and his GW colleague Michael.

The performers were the Renaissance Duo, Lan-In Winnie Yang and Tzu-Yi Zoe Chen. They played the following works:

1. Duettino Concertante (after Mozart's Finaloefrom Piano Concerto in FMajor, K. 459) - Ferruccio Busoni (1866-1924)

2. Sonata for Two Pianos in F minor, op. 34b - Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)

3. The Garden of Eden Four Rags for Two Pianos - William Bolcom (b. 1938)

After this incredibly marvelous concert, Janet and I had a bite to eat next door at Au Bon Pain.

A Unique Museum

A new and very unique museum experience! Glenstone in Potomac, MD!

I went with Janet who had succeeded in snagging tickets for us (not an easy feat), her friend Deborah, and Indra.

Christine, Indra, and Janet

After checking in, we walked down to join the tour of the outdoor artwork. On the way down we were surprised at this bush/tree in bloom. We discovered later that it was a Witch Hazel bush.

Subject: Perugia

We met to help Shearer decide where to pursue her study of the beautiful Italian language. The primary focus was on Perugia.

We met for lunch at Matchbox Pizza in Chinatown and had a very interesting discussion focused primarily on Italy. Lots of information and lots of laughs!

From left to right around the table: Ed who had studied in Rome, Matt who had studied in Rome and Perugia, Kristina who had studied in Perugia, Shearer, and Christine who had studied in Perugia, Florence, and Rome.

Gates and Roots

John and I went to an excellent program offered to WETA members held at Lisner Auditorium on the GW campus.

We first had dinner at Panera's in the Marvin Center.

We then went to Lisner for the program in which Henry Gates, the host of the Finding Your Roots series on PBS, talked with special guests Joe Madison, S. Epatha Merkerson and CeCe Moore.

It was very inspiring and interesting. The audience was very enthusiastic and very excited. The atmosphere was electric. Lots of clapping and lots of laughter.

I admire Henry Gates even more after this event and plan not to miss any of his Tuesday evening programs anymore.

No photos!

A Day with MJ

MJ and I have Arthur in common. He is our grandson.

Our Unusual Grandson

I picked MJ up at her boutique hotel in Alexandria, Morrison House, and took her to GW. She wanted information about courses offered by GW's Business School.

After our GW visit, we had lunch at Circa's at the corner of 23rd and Eye Street NW.

Then we returned to Springfield and stopped at Starbuck's for coffee.

My Favorite Kind of Day

I love going into the District to meet a good friend and visit a museum.

I met my friend George at the National Museum for Women in the Arts to see the exhibit Rodarte.

From the brochure: The innovative American luxury fashion house Rodarte, founded by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, is known for its pioneering approach to fashion design. Rodarte, the first fashion exhibition organized by the National Museum of Women in the Arts, highlights the designers' visionary concepts, impeccable crafsmanship, and profound impact on the fashion industry.

Here are several photos from the exhibition:

Concerto in D Major by Bach
Reverie by Claude Debussy
Fantasie Brilliante by Jean-Baptiste Arban
Concerto in E-flat Major, Andante by J.N.. Hummel
Awakenings, I. Allegro moderato by James Stephenson
Siete canciones populares espanolas (Seven Spanish Folksongs) by Manuel de Falla

Fantastic Young Musicians

A wonderful musical evening!

Before going to the concert, my friends and I had a wonderful dinner at Nazret Ethiopia, an Ethiopian restaurant in Falls Church on George Mason Drive

                                                                      Tim and Glenda

                      Tim's lamb tibs

Glenda's assorted selection - lentils, potatoes and carrots, etc.

Christine and John

John also had the lamb tibs.

Christine had rice with vegetables

What is particularly special about Ethiopian meals is the ingeera, the bread that underlies the food and takes the place of silverware.

The concert performed by the St. Olaf Orchestra was truly amazing. The program included the following:

Overture to The School for Scandal by Samuel Barber
Trumpet Concerto No. 1 in C Minor (soloist John Loeter '19)
These Worlds In Us by Missy Mazzoli
Hedwig's Theme from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by John Williams
