Crepes for Barbara

We celebrated Barbara's birthday today in Old Town. Marie intoduced us to Fontaine's, a restaurant in Old Town Alexandia famous for its crepes.

We had quite a surprise, however, when we were served buckwheat crepes. They were not exactly what we had expected. Buckwheat??

I chose a savory crepe, the Moroccan crepe - spinach and feta cheese topped with mint-yogurt sauce. It was actually quite tasty but I would probably not order a buckwheat crepe again!

Marie was pretty in pink, very tuned into the cherry blossom season in the nation's capital.

We then decided to share a sweet cherry crepe and it was delicious!

We then walked a few blocks over to the Torpedo Factory to see Blowing in the Wind, the Cherry Blossom Installation of Norwegian artist, Lilliane Blom.

 Marie and Christine

Above: "Twenty clear and pink edged umbrellas filled with dye cut cherry blossoms in shades of pink and white that slowly twirl"

Above: "70-foot long Silk River made of four hand-dyed silk pieces, each 5 feet wide and 20 feet long, inspired by "the fallen cherry blossom petals that run and float along the streets in the Washington region at the end of spring."

(Unfortunately, Linda and Barbara were camera-shy.)

After viewing the installation, we wandered around, visiting the numerous artist studios and delighting in the beauty of the artists' works.

It was a wonderfully refreshing outing in which we delighted in the strong bonds of friendship, the beauty of art, and an enjoyable culinary experience.
