I received many nice gifts for my birthday but the one that touched me the most was Arthur's. He went to Tyson's Corner one afternoon and, when he saw this beautiful crystal elephant, he immediately thought of me and knew that it was the perfect gift for me. I will treasure it always. I have tried to capture the essence of it in these photos but they do not do it justice. It is perfectly exquisite. Thank you, dearest Arthur!

What a glorious birthday! I celebrated it with my husband, both sons, and four grandsons. A rare and wonderful occasion!

Yankees-Nats at Nationals Park
A beautiful summer day at Nats Park with Adriano, Arthur, and Paul. I was a bit conflicted. The Yankees are my team but I am also a Nats fan. The Nationals are my second favorite team. It is my local team. How could I watch this inter-league game with my two teams battling it out? In an attempt to be neutral, I wore my Yankees cap when they were at bat and my Nats cap when they were at bat. But the Yankees won and, I must confess, I was happy!

Two Authors Meet for Lunch
I met my friend Carla for lunch at our usual spot, Busboys and Poets in Shirlington. As usual, great conversation and delicious food in an atmosphere of social justice. The presence of Langston Hughes is alive and well here.

DCDC Lunches at Proof
The entire DCDC Group was together again! Ex-Pat Susan came back to DC and made it possible. We had a delightful (long) lunch at Proof, a wonderful restaurant right across the street from the National Portrait Gallery.
