Grand Army of the Republic

This monument is dedicated to the GAR, the organization for the Union Veterans of the Civil War. I have two great-grandfathers who were Union soldiers, Fred Walters and Thomas McGarry.

Library of Congress

My Sons of Norway Genealogy Interest Group went to the Library of Congress. We met in front of the Madison Building.

We went inside to register for our Reader cards.

Then we went to the Jefferson Building for a session with a researcher in the Genealogy Reference Room. The session was tailor-made for us and dealt with Norwegian genealogy.

The Library of Congress is across the street from the US Capitol.

Kinkeads With Larissa

My dear friend Larissa was in town today. We had a celebratory luncheon at Kinkead's, the beautiful restaurant in 2000 Penn on the GW campus.

Australian Aboriginal Art and Ella's

Geri and I visited an incredibly beautiful exhibit of Australian Aboriginal Art at the National Museum for Women in the Arts today. Many of the paintings looked like beadwork to me.

After viewing the exhibit, we had a delightful lunch at Ella's.

We each had butternut squash tortellini and a delicious salad of arugula, goat cheese, red and golden beets, and slices of mandarin oranges.

Birthday Lunch for Oksana at Aroma

We had a very nice lunch to celebrate Oksana's birthday at Aroma, an Indian restaurant near the GW campus. Three of us had Vegetarian Thali. The Birthday Girl had lamb.
